Loved the real food, nothing fake about the friendliness .The host was the best ever. We had a table for eight and everyone had a enjoyable night, lot's of laughter and empty plates, went back to the kitchen. Thank you for a great night.

We went to Amonas for my husbands 50th birthday, WOW. The food was outstanding, and the service couldn’t have been better. I especially loved that the waitress spoke to my parents in Spanish, it made the evening so enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!

We visited Amona Tapas and Pintxos Bar in Wollongong, and we were truly blown away. From the very first bite, it felt like we were being transported straight back to the Basque Country. We started with a selection of tapas, including the jamón croquettes and calamari. Both dishes captured the authentic flavours and essence of home — crispy, delicate, and packed with the richness and simplicity that make Basque cuisine so special. Then came the highlight of the night: the black paella. Absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, full of deep flavour, and easily 100% recommendable to anyone visiting. It’s one of those dishes we won’t forget. The staff were wonderful as well — attentive, friendly, and always making sure everything was perfect. And of course, felicidades to the chef for delivering such an outstanding experience. If you’re looking for genuine Spanish and Basque flavours in Illawarra, we definitely recommend Amona.

I was hoping that this may become a regular place, but not after I checked the bill. I'll jump straight to the thing that was the "never again" item for me, and then cover the rest.. The ACCC says, with my emphasis: "Businesses must communicate clear and accurate prices PRIOR TO consumers booking, ORDERING or purchasing. .... Businesses must display a total price THAT INCLUDES TAXES," GST *inclusive* prices on a menu are not optional. The prices on the receipt that I have uploaded did match exactly to the prices on the menu (which I was paying attention to (and have a copy of), even if I wasn't tallying them up), meaning that those prices should have had GST embedded in them. When the bill came it struck me as being unusually high, but in the dim light of a restaurant nobody wants to whip out a copy of Excel to reconcile the bill. In most places YOU DON'T NEED TO. But HERE, you should check the bill carefully for as you can see we were hit with an ADDITIONAL 10% charge, which was supposedly GST. That's on top of the plate prices which should have already included the tax. I have no intention of being ripped off by being charged 10% more than the menu price. Well, yes, I WAS, but it's not something that will ever happen twice at the same place. Our booking was for 6:15. We arrived on time and were seated at a fairly comfortable table. We placed our orders about 10 minutes later. For over half an hour we heard and received nothing. Maybe 40 minutes after ordering one of the staff came over and said that the kitchen had a large gluten free order and were therefore a bit behind. Eventually our first plate, a Pan Tumaca came out. It was very good but pretty much the same as you'd get as a plate of Bruschetta at any of the Italian restaurants in the area, just with a price that's about 2/3 higher. (That's even before the "extra" GST.) The quality was good. The Patatas Bravas were a touch spicier than I'm used to, but again I liked them and they were of good quality. Were they worth $17? I've seen worse bargains, though to us the real price to us was $18.70. The sauteed artichokes ($15.50) I found to be bland and flavourless with an unappealing texture. They may have been OK as a side dish but I really didn't enjoy them. The problem with the chicken meatballs in wine and garlic sauce was the sauce, in my view. The meatballs were fine, I didn't consider them to be exceptional, but the sauce really didn't add much to them. On the other hand the pork meatballs in tomato sauce were exceptional. Again I think this came down to the sauce. It was a little spicy but very, very well made. The barbecue king prawns were very tasty, as you'd expect. They didn't come cheap, but I already knew that they were $30. Well, $33 to us. 2 one litre bottles of San Pellegrino sparkling water weighed in at $15 per bottle ($16.50 to us) which is pushing the outer envelope of prices that I've seen for those. I'd review the desserts but by the time we left there (well after 8, despite the incorrect time stamp on the register)... there weren't any left, other than affogato. Maybe if we hadn't been sitting there for over 40 minutes waiting for the alleged gluten free order to be done, well, it may have been a different story. Yes, they did ask me to input a tip at the end, but given that the service was fine when the dishes arrived and invisible otherwise, I declined. Especially after having spent more than half an hour in radio silence after we ordered. I can forgive a bad night at a restaurant (which this wasn't in some respects) but I will not, ever, accept price gouging like that. Never. Again.

We forget to give a review to this excellent Tapas restaurant in Wollongong. We visit this place in April 2025 for dinner. Luckily, we made reservation beforehand. There were a lot of customers to enjoy weekend night. We ordered a lot of Tapas dishes, most of which were very delicious. Unfortunately we were not able to try Paella because this dish has to make order in 1 day advance. The service was very good though the dishes did not come out fast due to a lot of customers. The only downside was the loud noise of other customers chatting and laughing. The price was reasonable though. Nice place to enjoy Spanish Tapas.
