Went to El Camino for a birthday dinner. Tim was our waiter and he was an absolutely awesome guy. Incredible customer service and made us all feel so welcome. Food was so good too, but Tim made our night
Felt a bit catfished by the positive reviews. The decor is a bit heavy handed, feeling more like a theme park than a restaurant. But thatโs fine if youโre into that. Itโs absolutely enormous inside, and pretty much empty when we went there. Maybe itโs better as a night time party joint. A lot of the marketing material seems to suggest drinks are their thing. Whats not their thing is decent Mexican food. Not a single dish we had was any good. The nachos wereโฆwet. With a puddle underneath them. Hell, even the โcheeseโ seemed to be wet. If that was even cheese. The pork taco was stone cold. The chicken one was more like something from a school cafeteria. The wings were entirely unseasoned and tasteless. And the corn wasโฆold(?). Not sure how to describe it, but not fresh. A little too much resistance when biting it. It also seemed to be covered in very strong Parmesan instead of cotija. So the smell of it was very off putting.
Was looking forward to this place given the high stars โฆ. But was superbly disappointed. The fish tacos were soggy, even the fish itself โฆ. The cauliflower tacos were again soggy and barely any flavour. The โsalsaโ is just chopped up tomatoes, no lemon or salt pepper or cilantro. The drinks are not bad and atmosphere is good overall but would not come if wanting actual Mexican food.
The Ultimate Tex-Mex FiestaโVibrant, Fun, and Photo-Worthy! As a photography enthusiast, I was immediately blown away by the incredible atmosphere and design at El Camino Cantina Fitzroy. This isn't just a restaurant; it's a full-blown visual experience! The exposed brick, massive neon lighting, and colourful decor create a genuinely electric and high-energy party vibe that is perfect for a fun night out or an event. The staff were friendly and really added to the excellent atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great Tex-Mex and a truly vibrant dining experience in Fitzroy! Attached photos highlight the lively main dining area, the stunning bar with the frozen margarita machines, and the delicious food spread.
Really disappointing. It took about 40 minutes for food to arrive and it wasnโt great, for example, the chicken in my tacos was cold and stale. The price is incredibly high considering the quality of it. Service was nothing special.
