On Saturday 17 January, between approximately 10:00 pm and 1:00 am, I attended Maya Mexican and was refused entry by venue security on the stated basis that I was not wearing a collared shirt. At the same time and in the same entry line, other patrons who were also not wearing collared shirts were permitted entry by another security guard. I have previously attended this venue on several occasions without wearing a collared shirt and was admitted, indicating that the dress code, if applicable, was not enforced consistently on this occasion. The security guard involved identified himself as number 604 or 640. I calmly requested clarification as to why I was refused entry while others dressed similarly were allowed in. I was informed that those patrons were “allowed more leeway” and that they “might have a booth or a function going on”, despite no verification being provided. No further explanation was offered. I acknowledge that a licensed venue is entitled to impose reasonable entry conditions. However, such conditions should be applied consistently, transparently, and without arbitrary discretion. Based on my direct observations, this did not occur in this instance. I also found the interaction to be handled in a confrontational and dismissive manner, rather than in a calm and professional way. Security staff represent the venue and should engage with patrons respectfully, particularly when exercising discretion. Experiences of this nature can cause unnecessary embarrassment and emotional distress, especially when they occur publicly and without clear justification. This review is provided to accurately document my experience and to encourage management to review entry policies and security conduct to ensure fair, consistent, and professional treatment of patrons.

Everything was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was beautiful—chilled yet sophisticated, with stunning decor that really set the mood. I loved every moment and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick after work drink or great dining experience.

Loved the food! Went for my birthday dinner and got a free margarita 🍸 The jalapeño poppers is a must have! All the veg options were really good. Chicken tacos had a good quantity of chicken in it. Ambience was fab

The food was good, the drinks were really good. Very nice ambience and the view over the city was really pretty especially with the night lights. They had music playing too, so a very nice vibe.

An absolute must when in Brisbane. Beautiful rooftop bar with innovative, tasty Mexican dishes. The chef’s tasting menu is excellent as is the cocktail list
